Based on my book," Immokalee's Fields of Hope," this presentation covers the history of Immokalee's Indian, white, black and Tejano residents and its dominant immigrant populations: Mexicans, Haitians and Guatemalans. I wove the political and social histories of the immigrants' home countries with the stories they told me, and merged them with my own to show the effect knowing these beautiful people has had on my own life. We'll also talk about immigration reform and and farm worker issues. And yes, there will be music!
